Samsung Taking Charge of the Touch Screen Display Technology
Last February, Samsung got to show off its amazing hardware with the launch of the Samsung Wave smart phone. The impressive little 3.3 inch super AMOLED touch screen display showed everyone that it is completely possible to bring high quality images to a handset.
Samsung then announced that they would be bringing the super AMOLED technology not only to their Bada OS smart phone, but also in their upcoming Android and Windows Phone 7 device. The Korean manufacturer confirmed that the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S would have a 4 inch super AMOLED display.
Now that they have gotten the title of having the best display screen for mobile phones, Samsung is gunning for a new title: the first to bring 3D to mobiles. Soon to be out in Korea is the Samsung W960 AMOLED 3D, and the best part about this device is not just its 3D screen, but also the fact that it is standalone display. This means that the screen is able to deliver 3D graphics without the additional aid of viewing goggles or other accessories.
The technology to display in 3D has already been released in Japan a couple of weeks back with the release of a 40” standalone 3D display. The monitor uses a dual layered screen technology (and a few other things that we could not understand in Japanese) in order to achieve the 3D effect. It is believed that the new Samsung handset uses the same technology.
Unfortunately, there is no word that the device would ever be sold outside of Korea, which means that if you want to get your hands on one of the very first 3D mobile phones to be released, you might want to have one shipped. Samsung has stated that the phone will be available from Korean network operators later in the first half of 2010.
